State of Decay 3 to have better graphics, heavier narrative than precursor

Undead Labs’ State of Decay 3 will feature improved visuals and heavier narrative elements than its previous entries. The game was announced all the way back in 2020.

Windows Central gave fans the lowdown on what to expect with the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase slated for June 9. In the article, reputable insider Jez Cordon asserts that the game looks “far more impressive” than its precursor likely due to enlisting the aid of fellow Xbox studio, The Coalition.

The game will also push for more ways to get invested into your protagonist, with their backstories coming into play, based on “trusted sources” from Cordon. Undead’s mostly doing this to make it more of a “gut punch” when you inevitably lose a community member to the world beyond.

Very little is truly known about this game, but we do know that it’s going to feature more than just the zombie fare we’re used to, introducing undead animals into the mix. While we’re gonna hold our breath that gameplay is going to be shown during the showcase on June 9, we feel like some sort of update would be nice. Xbox Game Studios’ Matt Booty hasn’t given a release date, but is “cautiously confident” that we’ll see some gameplay by the end of 2024.
