Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to release on past-gen consoles

Rumor on the street is that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the confirmed next entry in the long-running and well-liked — for the most part — Black Ops series is apparently eyeing a past-gen release version. This is despite PlayStation already dubbing the PS5 as in the last part of its generation, which no doubt means the Xbox Series X|S is in a similar boat.

A leak from a GameStop listing shared by CharlieIntel on X points to last-gen versions. Furthermore, Insider Gaming was also able to verify the image from its own sources. It also shed light on why an Xbox One version isn’t listed, that being because the Series X copy is cross-generation, meaning there’s no need for another listing.

We don’t have much longer to wait, considering the Xbox Games Showcase in June will conclude and have a dedicated showcase for the latest first-person shooter. If all is correct, it seems like Nintendo will skip out on Black Ops 6, most likely shying away from Activision’s library until the new console is out.

While this isn’t a surprise, considering its most recent Call of Duty — Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 — released on last-gen hardware, too. That said, it’s still fascinating that Activision is keeping its big shooters cross-generation so late into the current-gen’s life cycle.
