Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ budget surpassed €100 million

The controversial latest entry to the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, cost over €100 million to make. This isn’t likely the actual cost, though, as it’s not taking into consideration marketing and other factors.

According to Game File (via GamingBolt), CEO Yves Guillemot and CFO Frederick Duguet shared that the game’s budget went over €100 million. This doesn’t quite sound right, though, as even if we strike marketing out of the equation, that still leaves 14 studios working on this single game.

Now, it’s hard to really bash Ubisoft this time around, as regardless of if the studio recouped costs, it still managed to be a big hit for the studio, potentially saving it from falling into a dark future. Assassin’s Creed Shadows, notably, remains one of the best-selling games of the year, with a Switch 2 port supposedly in the pipeline.

In our review, Adrian Cozmuta said: “Assassin’s Creed Shadows delivers one of the best entries in the series. It incrementally refines the Ubisoft open-world formula and impresses with its characters and world-building, outstanding presentation, revamped and distinct combat, and stable console performance. There are several flaws, including storytelling and pacing, unbalanced protagonist gameplay, and some outdated traversal mechanics which stop Shadows from reaching its full potential.”
