Assassin’s Creed Shadows in the best selling games of 2025 so far

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is truly making waves since debuting not too long ago. In fact, it’s making such good traction, it’s among the top-selling games of the year so far.

Circana’s Mat Piscatella took to Bluesky, revealing that it was the best-selling game of its debut week in the States and among the top five best-selling games of the year so far. Monster Hunter: Wilds is actually the only game to reach higher week one sales this year.

The game’s success is no doubt a huge relief for Ubisoft, which looks to be relying heavily on Shadows’ success to drive its way forward. The Japanese backdropped game was second-biggest launch of a Ubisoft game, second only to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

In our review, Adrian Cozmuta said: “Assassin’s Creed Shadows delivers one of the best entries in the series. It incrementally refines the Ubisoft open-world formula and impresses with its characters and world-building, outstanding presentation, revamped and distinct combat, and stable console performance. There are several flaws, including storytelling and pacing, unbalanced protagonist gameplay, and some outdated traversal mechanics which stop Shadows from reaching its full potential.”
