Yes, The Sims movie is officially underway

It might seem weird, but EA has partnered with Amazon MGM Studios to adapt The Sims into a film. This has been rumored for some time now.

In a blog post on EA’s blog earlier this week, it was revealed that alongside the partnership with Amazon MGM Studios, Margo Robbie’s got her hands in it as her production house, LuckyChap, as well as Vertigo Entertainment are tied to the film as producers alongside The Sims team.

Things are being held off, but more is to come during the IP’s 25-year anniversary next year. After the fact, some more details come forward in a Variety interview with Kate Gorman, who is EA’s vice president and general manager of the Sims. The movie will be rooted in the broader The Sims universe and will be “truly authentic.”

Gorman notes that the team has aspirations to make a big splash, as big as last year’s insane box office success that was the Barbie movie. Considering Robbie’s tied to the project, it’s not super unbelievable, but we’ll have to wait and see.
