Superbad and Scott Pilgrim star Michael Cera rejected the chance to appear in the Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts, believing that would end up making him “too famous.”
Speaking on Louis Theroux’s podcast (via Variety), Cera explained that he didn’t want to be part of such a big franchise, though, hasn’t ruled out being part of something like Marvel in the future. He also probably didn’t care for it being a six-year commitment. Unfortunately, though, we don’t know what role he was eyed to play.
“I don’t even know if I was offered, I think I just declined to engage with it because I think it would be like probably six years commitment or something. But also, I did sort of make a conscientious choice to limit my exposure a little bit, or just try and be a little more in control of it. And I felt like doing, especially little kids’ movies, I had a big fear of doing things that I would get too famous.”
It’s interesting to see an actor reject a massive role because they don’t wanna become “too famous,” but we suppose Cera is famous in his own right, being the face of cult classics like Superbad and Scott Pilgrim, both having a loyal still-growing fanbase.
