Live action The Aristocats is dead at Disney

Director Ahmir Thompson, AKA Questlove, has spilled the cat food as to how the live action adaptation of The Aristocats is doing. Spoiler; not well.

During an episode of Score: The Podcast (via Deadline), Thompson expressed that the film is dead at Disney following excessive admin shifts. He explained that he expressed his vision to the administration that came in, even sharing some music samples and people he’d work with. After that, another shift happened and by the third time he was over it.

“By the third time, I was just like, ‘Maybe this isn’t meant for me.’”

Thompson said he would’ve loved to do it, and in the end doesn’t say it could never happen, but he does have his plate pretty full with four other films and this one just wasn’t meant to happen.

“I would have loved to have done that project, but there’s like 20 others that I can get to. What I don’t do is I don’t make announcements until it’s ready but there’s literally four other films. I’ll be working til 2029-2030. So, just wasn’t meant to happen. Maybe it will happen in the future.”

Frankly, not much will actually be lost with this shift, there is a pretty vocal group of Disney fans who are tired of the constant live action remakes, with a remake of The Aristocats being especially an odd one to make.
