Live action Lilo and Stitch film confirmed for May 2025

We now know the release date of the live action, coupled with CGI, of course, Lilo and Stitch. Originally, Disney was pretty vague during its first-look presentation during its big D23 event.

On Twitter, the official Walt Disney Studios account revealed the film’s heading to theaters on May 23, 2025. Not gonna lie, it seems like a missed opportunity to have it hit theaters on June 26, but who are we to judge?

The film would be bound to face some competition, with Mission: Impossible 8 and the new Karate Kid flick in theaters during the same month, with the new Mission film being the same weekend.

New-to-the-scene Maia Kealoha takes the role of Lilo while the co-writer and director behind the original animated film, Chris Sanders, returns to voice Experiment 626. Other actors involved include Courtney B. Vance, Zach Galifianakis, Kahiau Machado, and Sydney Elizebeth Agudong. Behind the scenes, Dean Fleischer is set to direct.

While we don’t know the direct flick’s story, we are led to assume it’ll cover much of the same story beats of the original 2002 animated comedy. Considering Disney’s track record, it could either be a smash-hit or smash financials while also getting dragged through the mud by the audience.
