Ubisoft threatened to sue Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag actor for spurring on remake rumor

Matt Ryan, the voice of Edward Kenway, saw Ubisoft threaten to sue him after spurring on rumors centered around Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

IGN reports of an interaction with another fan following him being rather open about teasing a Black Flag revival. Unfortunately, the only reason he was as open as he was at the time was because he didn’t know the cameras were rolling, and after the video circulated, Ubisoft threatened to sue Ryan.

“I was being very free and open, but I didn’t know that they actually were recording me on their phone. And then the company threatened to sue me. Yeah, so I say nothing.”

Of course, this kind of has the opposite effect, threatening to sue to the lead actor for getting fans’ hopes up really never works in a company’s favor, as it seems more likely it’s trying to keep Ryan in line with some NDA he had to sign. After all, why would it otherwise threaten to sue an actor?

Ubisoft has yet to officially announce a Black Flag remake, but rumors keep popping up from Ubisoft Singapore reportedly working on some heavily guarded project to industry pros pointing out new mechanics.
