Ubisoft CEO Yves Guilemot wants to release more open world games alongside live service titles “year after year.” This aligns with other big studios, like Warner Bros., which right now seems to still be heavily invested in the live service market, despite the failure of both Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, MultiVersus.
During a Q&A, Guilemot stated that it’s been investing in its “two verticals,” specifically pointing to open world action adventures and GaaS releases. Moreover, it seems it has no plans of slowing down, meaning we could easily see a new live service Ubisoft game any moment now.
“We have been investing significantly for a big pipeline of products for the coming years along our two verticals, [these] being open-world action adventure as well as ‘Game as a Service’-native experiences. And that’s what we want to deliver year after year.”
Of course, with Assassin’s Creed Shadows right around the corner, it did address the future of the studio, specifically pointing to Rainbow Six, which sounds like it has some good news coming out next year. Meanwhile, not long ago Ubisoft canned XDefiant, its free-to-play live service COD-like.
