Shadow of the Erdtree will be Elden Ring’s “first and last” DLC, FromSoft not opposed to sequels

FromSoftware boss Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed that Shadow of the Erdtree will be the “first and last” DLC headed for Elden Ring. On the bright side, it’s all too possible that we could get a sequel.

In an interview with Chinese outlet Campfire Camp (via GamesRadar), Miyazaki touched on future DLC for the award-winning Soulsborne game. While FromSoft has a history of offering multiple DLC for its games, the Japanese game maker confirmed that wouldn’t be the case, but noted that the game dev’s style lends itself to potential sequels set in The Land Between.

It’s also worth pointing out that prior to Elden Ring’s rights returning to FromSoft (via PSX Extreme), Bandai Namco seemed convinced that the 2022 Game of the Year winner would expend beyond just a video game into other media. Two years down the line and we’ve heard nothing about what it means or if there are still plans on expanding the IP beyond just games.

As it stands, Shadow of the Erdtree is up for pre-purchase and will cost $39.99, while expensive, the developer does have a reputation for making high-quality DLC for its games. The DLC is currently looking at a June 21 release date.
