PlayStation confirms new Astro Bot game, coming out in September

PlayStation confirmed the rumored Astro Bot game. Just like the aesthetically pleasing Astro’s Playroom, it will be fundamentally the same type of game — a platformer full of references to the many PlayStation games over the years.

Closing off the May 30 State of Play, PlayStation unveiled what Team Asobi’s been cooking with a fairly lengthy trailer mixing cinematics and gameplay. Based on the State of Play trailer and what we know from the PlayStation Blog, it will be a lot more substantial than its precursor full of combat and more platforming. It also gives us vibes that the references will be a bit more noticeable, with references to PaRappa, Journey, Nathan Drake, and Kratos, to name some.

With over 80 levels, there is a lot to have with this game and we hope that it’s just as much the love letter to the console brand as its precursor was. Considering this is a first-party game, it will take full advantage of all the DualSense staples like haptic feedback. Team Asobi has billed this as the studio’s “most ambitious game” yet and if anything’s like Astro’s Playroom, it’ll show.

We don’t have a long time to wait, with the game heading our way in September, specifically, September 6 exclusively on the PlayStation 5.
