Physical Star Wars Outlaws editions require online connection to install

Despite a physical copy available to pre-order ahead of its August 30 launch, Ubisoft still requires an internet connection to install. It’s small enough some may miss it.

Users on ResetEra spotted the requirement on box art found on other sellers, such as Best Buy. Naturally this caused a little stir, but should be expected from Ubisoft. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was a carbon copy of this, where the game required an internet connection to start things before an offline mode became available after its day-one patch.

This seems to be a thing many developers are starting to do, Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, for example, also required an internet connection for its day-one patch. Digital adopters had nothing to worry about, but physical gamers faced a completely different story, with a sizable chunk of the game being a digital download. While not confirmed, we assume this to be the case for Outlaws, as well.

On the bright side, we’ve finally got a look at Star Wars Outlaws with its recently dropped story trailer.
