Overwatch 2 PvE missions held up in the pipeline over “Blizzard Quality”

Plans of three PvE missions in Overwatch 2 every 18 months seems a little less likely thanks to a new report regarding the missions current statuses. “Blizzard Quality” exists and it’s only ever up to the game director and executives who think more time is needed.

In a Kotaku report, sources tell it that while some PvE missions are fully playable, others are stuck in the concept phase as higher-ups keep throwing around “Blizzard Quality.” Meanwhile, dismissing any concerns about the game’s current state or if what it’s working on is what the community wants.

Overwatch 2 was revealed with a few things in mind, chief among them was Hero Mode, a PvE-centric mode that let players go toe-to-toe with AI enemies and not have to deal with other players. Ultimately, this mode was canned reportedly only two months after launch in December 2022. This would’ve been six months before the mode would officially be dead.

Ultimately despite giving fans a little taste of PvE in Invasion’s story missions, it supposedly didn’t hit as hard as expected, and we’ll hold our breath that Microsoft wants more money to burn making these PvE missions. While fans — and it seems like employees — want Hero Mode to exist, it seems unlikely and Overwatch 2 will always have that stink of promising something that it simply didn’t deliver.
