Nintendo is introducing new pricing policy for Switch 2 exclusives

Yoshi and The Mysterious Book has finally confirmed its official price, which is currently available for preorder. Nintendo is using this opportunity to introduce a new pricing policy for physical and digital games in the upcoming era of the Nintendo Switch 2. Yoshi and The Mysterious Book is the first Nintendo Switch 2 game that will follow the rules being implemented in May 2026, making digital pricing cheaper than physical pricing.

These new rules are in response to the growing costs of production and distribution, especially for the 64 GB game cartridges. Nintendo told IGN that these rules aren’t increasing the physical costs, mainly because they follow variable costs for developing certain Nintendo games.

“The cost of physical games is not going up; This means that when Nintendo sells digital versions of Nintendo published games exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 to consumers in the U.S., those prices will have an MSRP that is lower than their physical counterparts; Retail partners set their own prices for physical and digital games, and pricing for each title may vary.”
