Crash 4 dev Toys for Bob goes indie, new game is in “early days” of development

Toys for Bob, the studio that has since made a name for itself with its remakes of the classic Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon trilogies, has spun-off from Activision, becoming an indie studio. Microsoft will now just be a possible partner for future endeavors.

As shared on the TFB blog (via PSX Extreme), the studio labeled this change as something that will allow it to “return to our roots of being a small and nimble studio.” At this stage it isn’t clear what its next project is, but from how it’s being passively discussed, it sounds to be a wholly original IP rather than touching up and remastering something from days of old.

Despite this spin-off, which happened only a month after mass layoffs led to the studio’s main office shuttering and fans concerned for its future, Activision and Microsoft are both “extremely supportive.” We’re sure whatever it is the Toys for Bob team has cooking up will have just as much charm as its previous games.
