Avowed officially delayed to next year

Microsoft has confirmed the recent delay rumor creeping up about Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming fantasy RPG. It’s now slated for an early 2025 release.

On X, Xbox revealed that the game was getting delayed, supposedly to give players some “breathing room” for the sake of backlogs. More info on Avowed is coming on August 23 during a live stream at Gamescom. Attached, the studio presented a slew of both dated games and those that are poised to release in the coming months and years.

Frankly, it’s a weird reason to delay games unless Xbox believes it won’t stand strong if it drops around the same time as other major games and it doesn’t want another flop on its hands.

Obsidian has a solid track record, complete with games like Alpha Protocol, Fallout: New Vegas, Grounded, and The Outer Worlds, so we hope this game will have the same kind of quality. It also has the stigma of being the studio’s first first-party game since being snagged by Microsoft in 2018.

Avowed now releases on February 18, 2025 on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
