Upcoming December 2023 Switch games to get hyped about

December is underway, and just like every month, we have stuff to look forward to, even on the Nintendo Switch. While we’ve seen fit to cap the year off with must-play games on the hardware, that doesn’t the console is through with third-party releases, some of which deserve some attention.

Star Wars Heritage Pack

Star Wars Heritage Pack is Aspyr’s repackaging of seven notable Star Wars games. For $59.99, you can get not just The Force Unleashed, but also Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Episode I Racer, Republic Commando, Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Knights of the Old Republic, and Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords.

We don’t know about you, but it seems like a great holiday gift for that Star Wars nerd in your life. Especailly as four of the seven games can be found physically.

Skater XL

When younger, we’re pretty sure everyone wanted to be a skater, but plenty of us just simply didn’t have the drive to properly learn how to skate or the willingness to put our body in harm’s way for the learning experience sake, that’s where Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games came into view, but with the game lineup running dry, what is there to do?

Skater XL is effectively a modern-day Tony Hawk skater that scratches that itch that Activision is only just now realizing it’s left in the dust. Costing a palatable $39.99, Skater XL offers the same immersive skating experience without having to pull out older hardware or deal with a remake of a beloved franchise.

World of Horror

If the Switch has anything going for it, it’s the games that have a minimalist style as regardless of how old the game looks, some will see a definitive charm. World of Horror is a game that uses the 1-bit pixel art style to its fullest while inspired by the likes of H.P. Lovecraft. Designed almost entirely in MS Paint, this spooky indie has quite a bit going for it in style points.

While the game released back in October, it isn’t until this month that fans can hold the game in their hands with a physical cartridge and case for $34.99.

2 | Pokemon: Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo DiskThis one might be cheating a bit, depending on how you want to look at it. Pokemon: Scarlet & Violet, regardless of how you cut it was a controversial release, not that it released itself, but rather the state it released in, eliciting some people to grow wary of the Switch’s longevity as Nintendo has yet to fully upgrade the console. But, it’s since been optimized better with its second DLC on the way, we can’t help but be excited.

Taking place after The Teal Mask, you venture forth as an exchange student at Blueberry Academy, a less storied sister academy of yours with a focus on Pokemon battling. Continue your journey, facing off against the academy’s very Elite Four.

Have a Nice Death

Roguelikes is always a finicky genre to tackle. On one hand, the feeling of dealing with a foe that brought you down a couple times is very satisfying, but on the other, there’s the frustration that stems from death after death after death. Have a Nice Death launched earlier this year, and it’s a procedurally generated, charming treat.

Sure, it’s a little old, but later this month, Magic Design Studios and Gearbox Publishing will send off physical copies, letting people not just download Death, but also brush shoulders with it.
