OpenAI previously launched the Sora app in late 2025 for creators to make unique AI creations with simple prompts. The same company has recently closed the Sora service due to its shift in business priorities, stepping away from video creation. As the company transitions to its new interest, it will provide a roadmap for the Sora app and API, updating its community with details explaining how it will preserve its AI generative work.
The closure of Sora would also end Disney’s $1 billion investment into OpenAI. The terminated deal hindered little of Disney’s interest in AI, still viewing it as an early opportunity for its IPs to develop while supporting creativity from various creators. This ideal will influence the company to research the evolution of AI and contribute to other areas in the developing AI market, such as Google AI.
“As the nascent AI field advances rapidly, we respect OpenAI’s decision to exit the video generation business and to shift its priorities elsewhere; We appreciate the constructive collaboration between our teams and what we learned from it, and we will continue to engage with AI platforms to find new ways to meet fans where they are while responsibly embracing new technologies that respect IP and the rights of creators.”
