Anthem prepares to shutter for good next year

BioWare is preparing to close down the Anthem servers early next year after keeping the divisive game up and running since 2019. The game is still available to play via EA Play for now, for those interested.

Anthem’s fate was revealed on the blog, sharing that players will no longer be able to purchase its premium currency, though, they can spend what they have. After the game goes offline, though, it’s done.

“We have an important update to share regarding Anthem. After careful consideration, we will be sunsetting Anthem on January 12, 2026. This means that the game will still be playable online for the next 180+ days. As of today, you can no longer purchase in-game premium currency, but you can still use your remaining balance until the servers go offline.

We deeply appreciate your dedication, passion and support over the years and we’d like to thank you for that.”

Frankly, it’s been a long-time coming, Anthem has been sitting without much if any support from BioWare, so it’s shocking that servers have lasted as long as it has. The game started with performance issues and retained a not-so-great player count. Regardless, January 12, 2026 is your last call to play the game.
