MindsEye dev exec blames “internal and external saboteurs” for the studio’s troubles

Build a Rocket Boy may be close to nixing its 300-person UK team following the bad reception MindsEye received. Additionally, studio head Leslie Benzies also addressed the team in a meeting, in which he blamed the studio’s woes on “internal and external saboteurs,” basically echoing Mark Gerhard’s take that there’s a “concerted effort” to “trash the game and studio.”

IGN reports that BARB also sent at-risk redundancy letters to its subsidiary, PlayFusion, which is in the midst of making its own game meant to come out this year, Ascendant. Benzies addressed the team in a meeting earlier this week, stating the game and studio will bounce back and shifting the blame to “saboteurs.”

It seems Benzies still believes people were paid to trash the game, despite IO Interactive’s exec shooting the theory down. Internally, staff do hope for this “redemption arc,” potentially even leading to the studio’s success, but of course, that is entirely if funding doesn’t run completely dry by the time it pulls enough of an audience.

In our MindsEye review, we said: “In its current state MindsEye certainly isn’t anything special, but if you are willing to take a risk on something that has a solid foundation, oodles of potential but might just end up leave you a little dissatisfied with the final result, MindsEye is worth a try – but maybe wait until its performance is ironed out.”
