Godfall, Duelyst developer Counterplay Games reportedly shutters

It appears Godfall and Duelyst developer Counterplay Games has quietly closed down at the top of the year. Frankly, it was bound to happen considering the shoddy reception to its games.

Former staff at LinkedIn confirmed (yet deleted) the studio’s closure, per PlayStation LifeStyle. Now an employee at Jackalyptic Games, Isaac Oster explains that it’s unable to continue their partnership and that the studio

“Over the past six months or so our project at Jackalyptic has been supercharged by the world-class devs at Counterplay Games. It’s impossible to overstate their impact. From the very first day they put their shoulders to the wheel like it was their baby.

Unfortunately we were unable to continue our partnership into the new year and CPG was disbanded. I want to share the profiles of a few folks I worked with closely, strongly recommend, and hope to work with again as soon as possible.”

Game Developer furthers the claim, noting it can “corroborate the post’s existence.” Notably, this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise; Godfall fell hard in terms of its reception, it was mixed. Meanwhile, Duelyst was shuttered back in 2020, replaced with a sequel under a different studio.
