Moana 2 blows Wicked out of the water

Disney’s Moana 2 is poised to outperform Wicked and Paramount’s Gladiator 2 as it enters its weekend, starting with $82 million in the bank. The film already nabbed record advance ticket sales.

As Collider reports, during its theatrical debut, Moana 2 nabbed $57 million, followed by $28 million on Thanksgiving, and landed at $55 million on Friday. It currently stands at $192.7 million worldwide, based on Box Office Mojo. Unsurprisingly, it’s expected to cross $200 million in five days, though, with the established love people have for the original 2016 romp, it could easily blow beyond that number to $220 million.

Moana 2’s success should come as no surprise; firstly, it’s Disney, which will basically never have a proper failed sequel; even its most lackluster sequel is still a money printer. Secondly, the film has found great success among its audience. Only time will tell where the film will stop, but we kinda suspect $220 is a closer estimate than its original expectations, especially if we take into account international box office numbers.
