Blumhouse Productions’ sequel involving a masked serial killer abducting children shares an update regarding the production.

According to GamesRadar, director Scott Derrickson shares his first behind-the-scenes look via Instagram regarding The Black Phone 2. The image is merely a black and white filtered image of a director’s chair with the sequel’s title written behind it. Derrickson also wrote that shooting started on the day he shared his post.

The sequel to The Black Phone will feature the return of the evil serial killer Grabber, who targets kids and is played by Ethan Hawke once again. The first movie has Mason Thames playing as Finney, a teenager who was kidnapped by the Grabber. In the basement where Finney was dragged into, a phone is present that allowed him to contact previous victims of the masked serial killer. In the end, Finney got the upperhand and escaped the Grabber’s basement. However, Thames will be coming back in the Black Phone 2.

Other stars set to return include Madeleine McGraw as Gwen, Miguel Mora as Robin, and Jeremy Davies as Terrence. Also joining the line-up is The Nun actor, Demián Bichir. Derrickson will also be making his return to direct a script he wrote alongside C. Robert Cargill.

The Black Phone 2 will be released in theaters on October 17, 2025.
