Crash 5 was canned for more live service games

It seems that Crash Bandicoot fans can’t catch a break these days.

A new report from Liam Robertson, of DidYouKnowGaming fame, claims that Crash Bandicoot 5 was canceled by Activision in favor of making yet more live service games.

Activision apparently made this decision following the lackluster 5 million copies that Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time sold. Whilst that may seem a very large sum to many, it pales in comparison to the N. Sane Trilogy’s 20 million copies sold. Funding on this game was pulled and pitches for other single player games such as a new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater were subsequently shot down.

Details suggested that Crash 5 would have had a setting in a school with villainous children, villains like Dr Neo Cortex and Dingodile set to return, and perhaps the most tragic of all: a Crash and Spyro teamup. As a Spyro fan that’s been waiting patiently for him to return to the spotlight, this one could really hurt. Oh well at least we’ll be getting more indistinguishable live service games in the future…yay!
